Each year the Bailey Youth Enrichment Foundation (BYEF) recognizes individuals and

organizations for sharing time, talent and treasures to help the organization work towards its

mission of helping youth become successful and productive adults. “BYEF is fortunate to have so many dedicated and committed volunteers and supporters,” said Harold Bailey, executive director of BYEF. This year the organization will again recognize all its volunteers and present special Hats Off tributes to volunteer Vincent Phillips, Sr. and the Saint Louis University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Bailey said Vincent Phillips, Sr., has served as a volunteer for BYEF since it was founded.

Vincent believes in the organization’s mission and applauds any efforts in helping to develop

character in youth. He has been a go to guy to fill numerous positions including fundraising event cashier, photographer, auction basket donation pickup and delivery man, and basketball program adviser.

The Saint Louis University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (SLUDND) has been an

important partner to BYEF’s physical fitness program. The United States Centers for Disease

and Prevention reports that the percentage of children and adolescents in the United States

affected by obesity has more than tripled since the 1970 with 2015-16 data showing nearly 1 in 5 school age children in the U.S. has obesity. SLUDND has helped BYEF address this problem by conducted nutrition education classes, snack planning, and evaluations and overall nutrition advisory for BYEF’s after school enrichment program.

The awards will be presented at BYEF’s October 13, trivia night fundraiser at the Engineer’s

Club of St. Louis.
